Body & food in balance
The nutritional guidelines according to yoga are based on the individual, the character the moods and the circumstances. Choose which products from which you have a good effect on your body. Make sure you keep your foods fit and energetic, so not stressed and grumpy? If a diet is balanced, the body will remain slim and healthy and energetic.
Three Gunas
The teachings of the yoga distinguish three basic characters. Everything in the universe has these three properties, so also people and food.
Rajas
Hot, bitter, sour, dry or salty flavors. Fall under rajas power supply e.g. coffee, tea, chocolate, eggs, salt, fish, sharp spices This diet can make you restless and tense, but can give energy if you already felt lethargic.
Tamas
Acid, dry, old. Under tamas nutrition are e.g.: alcohol, onion, garlic, overripe fruits, warmed up food, meat. This power supply strengthened negative feelings in someone with a tamas personality, but can improve a negative feeling in rajas personality.
Sattva
Under sattva nutrition are e.g.: grain products, fruits, juices, vegetables, dairy products, nuts, seeds, herbs, honey, and water. This brings body and soul in balance. Sattva power supply provides a healthy mind in a healthy body.
General yoga guidelines use as many fresh products that have not been treated, modified or irradiated to longer shelf life. Avoid products with preservatives and dyes. Avoid using refined foods such as sugar, flour, canned food and those like.
Everything in moderation
Yoga has temperance in high esteem. Eat slowly and chew well and especially not overeating.
Vegetarian
The yoga teachings recommends a diet with non-animal food. This includes meat, not dairy. The reason for this is actually an ethical principle, namely the yoga to inflict no harm or to use violence against living beings. In addition, there are health reasons. Meat contains hormones and antibiotics that digest slower and also in our body. You need not be a vegetarian for practicing yoga.
Fasting
Fasting has as purpose to clean the body. It is recommended to keep this no longer than 1-3 days. During these days should be sufficient moisture be used, preferably freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices.
